some background
hello!
i am Dhirpal, a fourth year at the University of Chicago.
i’m completing the bs/ms program in computer science, where i’ll be completing both my bachelor’s and master’s degree in 4 years along with a bachelors in economics. i’m very passionate about software engineering, interested in the intersection between tech and finance, and love doing research in the field of quantum computing. i am also a goalkeeper on the NCAA UChicago Men’s Soccer Team.
i was born in Gujarat and spent my whole life in Taipei before coming to Chicago for college. it gets pretty confusing at times (even for me!), but i wouldn’t have it any other way - it’s certainly taught me how to be open to new experiences and have a fresh outlook on life (so much so that i gave a TEDx talk on it in high school)!
on this website you’ll find some experiences i’ve had - feel free to take a look and reach out if you want to chat! my resume is also below.
work
here are some things i've been a part of recently, both technical and nontechnical. Enjoy!
Experiences

Alphasense
Software Engineering Internship
My third-year summer, I worked as a software engineer at AlphaSense, a financial market analytics platform. I worked on internally-facing products for our analysts to conduct research more efficiently. I learned a ton about fullstack development and met some awesome people.

Infleqtion
Quantum Software Engineering Internship
My second-year summer, I was very fortunate work as a software engineering intern at Infleqtion, a company specializing in delivering quantum technologies. I worked with a team that specialized in Superstaq, a platform that allows users access to quantum solvers for practical applications.

Darwin Venture Capital
Investment Analyst Internship
My first-year summer, I worked in Taipei as an Investment Analyst Intern at Darwin Ventures, a boutique VC firm. I learned about the lifecycle of startups and what differentiates a good startup from a great one, as I've always been very passionate about entrepreneurship.

SponsU
Founder and CEO
After realizing that most companies struggle to reach out to college students for sponsorship opportunities, I built SponsU, a platform that connects companies to all college students. We've raised $40k and are currently working on launching!
Portfolio

Sudoku
Because I'm bad at it
Since I couldn't beat my sister over a serious of sudoku puzzles, I decided to make a computer do it for me. I watched some youtube videos to implement a working Sudoku solver that utilizes the backtracking algorithim to efficiently solve any Sudoku puzzle given with a pretty pygame GUI.

Course Buddy
Because I struggle with picking classes in college
Course Buddy is a prototype my classmates and I developed to help with the daunting process of college course selections. Having experienced how tough it is to navigate the plethora of unhelpful information, we developed a prototype for a crowd (student) sourced course selection app.

EPIQC
UChicago Quantum Research Group
I've been incredibly lucky to get the chance to do some groundbreaking research with professor Fred Chong's quantum research group. Most recently, I worked on a (pending) paper that created faster ways to schedule neutral atom gates.

Scientific Visualization
CMSC 23710 with Gordon Kindlmann
In this class, we looked at real world datasets through the lens of index space and world space. For our final project, my partner and I created an interactive visualization of an MRI scan. The most interesting thing I learned in this class was using instruments to identify bottlenecks in our code.

YLAB
UChicago Computer Science Research Group
Professor Yanjing Li specializes in computer architecture in UChicago's CS department. For the past year, I've worked under her to create more efficient implementations of binary neural networks on ARM devices. We've submitted one paper and presented at UChicago's research symposium.

xG Model
IN PROGRESS
Since I'm pretty big on the whole football (soccer) thing, my teammate and I sought out to create a more sophisticated xG (expected goals) model for football matches. We're combining open source code with work from big sports analysis companies like Opta to hopefully create an even better model!
Other Activities

Football
Goalkeeper
I've represented the Taiwanese national team, played professionally for a club in Taiwan, and am now currently a part of a historic UChicago Men's Soccer team. We won the D3 National Championship in 2022, and were invited to the White House by President Biden to celebrate.

Book Instagram
@sibling_reads
My sister and I are quite avid readers, so we decided to create a book instagram (here) a few years ago. Everytime we read an interesting book, we post a short review about it. It's not the most active page out there, but it's a really fun way to keep track of books we've read!

Resident Assistant
Jannotta House, RGGRC
I've really enjoyed my time as an RA. I organize house trips, take part in house events, and help integrate students into their first couple years of college. I know how hard it can be to try to transition into college, so I'm glad I get to give back and make sure my students smoothly do so!

Heart to Heart
Camp Coordinator
Each high school summer, a group of students would write a curriculum, organize logisitics, and carry out a two-week English camp for underprivileged aboriginal middle schoolers in southern Taiwan. Though I took part in many different activities growing up, this was by far my favourite one.
